![]() ![]() ![]() don't remember if the original route was like this, but watching it on the big screen it certainly felt odd. Saber is given no lines prior to the Berserker fight - She instead communicates through simple nods. +/-Gilgamesh is just chilling in the church and says yo. ![]() ![]() To the movie's credit though, it does remain 100% committed to the actual continuity, as you see shots of Shirou's hand with all his command spells intact and you get a glimpse of Rin with just her last remaining. Anyway, anyone who had watched only the UBW TV series might fairly ask, "Wait, where is Archer?" and Rin's comment about Archer not being here does nothing to explain why he was injured. Berserker fight from being a one-sided stomp. In UBW, Shirou stops Saber with a command spell of his own, and Archer is able to act freely immediately afterward - Most notably, in preventing the Saber vs. In both Fate and HF, Saber deals a heavy wound to Archer and Rin is forced to commit a command spell to recall him. Among the things that montage skipped over is one of the defining differences between the first few days of Fate/HF and UBW. When Kirei explains the fire, she shouts, "Hey, I told you to explain the rules, not to reopen his old wounds!" When Berserker appears in front of the church, she mutters, "If only that Archer wasn't injured.!" The latter point is a little more egregious. I mean, she's one of the archetype-defining tsunderes so it's not totally out of left field, but it still feels awkward. +/-To facilitate these and other changes, Rin is given. Even the scene in the church is abbreviated to Kotomine telling Shirou that the Grail caused the fire in Fuyuki City 10 years ago and confirming that he still wants to fight as a Master. You do get stuff like the interaction between Shirou and Sakura after Rin bumped into her which is pretty important imo, but everything from Shirou witnessing Archer and Lancer's fight to Shirou, Rin, and Saber approaching the church is fast-forwarded through via a montage while Zouken monologues on how much of a loser everyone in this war is. +/-Most of the prologue stuff at the start is skipped outright. This works really well in the context of a movie series largely about her character and ufotable of course does a wonderful job just playing with the Shirou-Sakura-Fujimura dynamic. +ufotable added a ton of original content before the start of day 1: Shirou's joining and departure from the archery club and Sakura showing up at his house for months at a time afterwards insisting on helping him. but it might be best enjoyed by people who have also already read HF.Īnyway, nobody in this topic really went into detail on stuff, so I figured I'd write out all the version differences from the visual novel (and from UBW that the movie doesn't go out of its way to point out >_>) and other points of note. You can follow it if you've watched just the UBW TV series. This movie is a love letter to the hardcore fans. My friend on the other reported having a good time but felt the movie is very disjointed, and having had a day to reflect on it, I can see where he's coming from. but I realize that much of my time was spent identifying little changes ufotable had made to the source material. In detail, his background is having watched the Fate/Zero anime twice and ufotable's UBW, and mine is watching Fate/Zero three times, studio Deen's Fate, ufotable's UBW, and the entire, original visual novel. Our background in Fate is pretty different, and our takes on the movie differed pretty drastically. Went to the showing yesterday in Manville, NJ with a friend (it sold out lol - good thing we bought early). ![]()
